In detail:

Different people demonstrate something for the project Eigenarten. They pass something on – their own knowledge, their approach, experience but also their points of view. The ‘how’ plays a significant role. It provides an insight into the person demonstrating. I am interested in particular in the language used by the person demonstrating: speaking during the activity often occurs in the spur of the moment.

An activity is documented. But the situation is staged. I selected the location together with the person. I asked them where they usually perform their selected activity.

Once recorded on film, these activities gain attention and a presence that they otherwise would not have. Activities that when you or others do them appear unassuming are now drawn into the foreground. Be it polishing shoes, waxing skis, platting Zopf bread or making a sandwich. The viewer is referred back to their own ways of acting.

The films show some Swiss particularities such as platting bread, potting plants, waxing skis and so on. A cultural asset that is otherwise only passed on within the family.
